Easter Celebrations
Easter in the Rhodope Mountains is a heartwarming experience that brings people closer together. Our hearts fill with happiness every time our home comes alive with the warmth of shared traditions and the charm of the celebration.

St. George’s Day – A Celebration of Spring Renewal
On May 6th, we celebrate one of Bulgaria’s most beloved holidays—St. George’s Day (Gergyovden). According to tradition, this day marks nature’s full bloom, bringing health and prosperity. Together with our guests, we will embrace the magic of spring awakening, following ancient customs such as adorning ourselves with geranium and fresh willow branches—symbols of health and longevity. Each year, this special day reminds us of the importance of keeping Bulgarian traditions alive.
Bagpipe Competition in Gela Village
One of the most iconic cultural events in the Rhodope Mountains—the traditional Bagpipe Competition (Gaidarsko Nadsvirvane)—takes place on the first Saturday of August. This thrilling event offers a chance to experience authentic Rhodopean culture and hear the enchanting sound of the kaba gaida (a traditional Bulgarian bagpipe). For our guests, we provide special accommodation offers during this exciting weekend when the entire village is filled with the magic of Rhodopean music.
The competition is accompanied by the Ilinden Fair on Sunday, a traditional gathering place for Bulgarians from all over the world. What makes this event truly special is not the competition itself, but the opportunity to connect with the mountain, the bagpipe, and the soul of the Rhodope people.
During the festival weekend, we offer:
- Cozy accommodation
- A traditional Rhodopean evening with a five-course menu
- A special musical program with a bagpiper and folk singers
- Convenient access to all festival events
