Enyovden in Gela – June 23–25, 2026

There are days in the year that carry a special kind of power. Enyovden is one of them.

According to Bulgarian tradition, on the night before this day nature is at its most vibrant and filled with life. Herbs reach the peak of their healing strength, and at sunrise the sun is said to “dance” — a sign of new light and health for the year ahead. For this reason, long before the first rays appear, people set out toward the meadows to gather herbs, touch the morning dew, and welcome the rising sun.

This year we invite you to experience Enyovden in Gela as a two-day immersion in the rhythm of nature, tradition, and shared time in the mountains. The package includes two nights and a special program devoted to herbs, song, morning light, and ancient Bulgarian customs.

The magic of herbs

It is believed that on Enyovden plants carry their strongest healing energy.

Early in the morning we will walk to the mountain meadows around the village, where together we will gather herbs from the Rhodope Mountains — thyme, St. John’s wort, oregano, yarrow, and other wild plants that grow on these slopes.

We will welcome the sunrise in silence, and afterwards touch the morning dew — an ancient symbol of health and purification.

The Enyovden Wreath

From the herbs we gather we will create a large Enyovden wreath — an old custom preserved in many parts of Bulgaria. According to tradition, everyone passes beneath this wreath as a blessing for health and well-being throughout the year.

Later we will also make small herbal wreaths and release them into the waters of the mountain river — a quiet ritual symbolizing movement, purity, and new beginnings.

Yoga and Morning Stillness

After the walk and the herb gathering we will return to the hotel for a gentle outdoor yoga practice. The session will focus on breath, movement, and reconnecting with nature.

Mountain Herbal Tea

We will end the morning with our tea made from 16 Rhodope mountain herbs, shared together with stories from the Rhodope Mountains.

Workshop with Natural Materials

We will also take part in a creative workshop for making wreaths and decorations from the gifts of the forest — moss, branches, pinecones, herbs, and wild plants. Through them we will be able to bring home a small piece of the Rhodope spirit.

Singing Gathering

We will come together for a singing gathering — a modern interpretation of the traditional Bulgarian sedyanka, a communal evening of song and connection. Guided by Gabriela Pavlova, we will explore Bulgarian folk songs, discover our own voices, and connect with one another through music.

Special Dinner

One of the evenings will feature a traditional dinner prepared over wood fire in our oven. The dishes will be cooked slowly, as they have been in the mountains for generations.
